The Constant Loop

Everything moves through four stages: it begins, it lives, it expires, it is reborn. The objects change. The circle does not. Close all six loops before they rot.

How to play. Click the four cards of one loop in order — Beginning, then Life, then Expiration, then Rebirth. Get the order right and the loop closes.

Things rot. Every few seconds a card starts to decay. A decayed card is marked, and if you leave it, it dies — and a loop with a dead card can never be closed.

You are the keeper. You have three Keepers. Spend one to restore any decaying or dead card. Six loops, three Keepers. You will have to choose.

Pick a Beginning card to start a loop.

Why it is called constant. Even a loop you fail to close is not truly broken — burned paper still returns as ash to soil and carbon to air, and something grows from it. What ends is the object, and the useful thing it was doing for you. The circle carries on with or without us. The constant is not the object. The constant is the circle. All this game asks is whether you were the one holding it.

The Constant Loop — the deck

Cut along the borders. Twenty-four cards, six loops of four. Shuffle and deal face up. Players take turns claiming a complete loop by laying its four cards in order: Beginning, Life, Expiration, Rebirth. Most loops wins. For the decay rule, turn one unclaimed card face down at the end of every round — it is dead unless a player spends one of their three Keeper tokens to turn it back.
