History, one decision at a time

The Fork in the Road

Most of us carry a few moments we wish we could decide again. Whole nations carry them too. History is not a list of dates. It is a long record of people standing at a fork, deciding with what they knew, and living with the result.

Here you stand where they stood. You will know only what they knew. Make the call, then see what happened, and what the world changed so that no one would have to pay that price again.

Choose a fork

Your own fork

The same thinking works on a life. Choose a decision you still think about. Not to punish yourself, but to learn from it the way a society learns: by being honest about what you knew then.

Keep going. GSU's free American Story hub and Civics hub carry these lessons further, and the trades carry them into every building: fire exits, sprinklers and wind-tested bridges are lessons written into code.
